I’ve been lucky enough to win some contests, win an award, and receive a medal!

2016 Sir Julius Vogel Award – Best Youth Novel

Dragons Realm Best Youth Novel 2016 Sir Julius Vogel Awards

Dragons Realm – A You Say Which Way Adventure (The Fairytale Factory 2015) won Best Youth Novel in New Zealand’s 2016 Sir Julius Vogel Awards (for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror).

As well as being in the You Say Which Way series, Dragons Realm is the first book in the Dragons Realm series for children, which also includes Attack on Dragons Realm.

Writing Contests

Award Eileen Mueller AJ PonderFirst place in SpecFicNZ (Speculative Fiction of New Zealand) 2103 Going Global contest for my YA Fantasy manuscript Ezaara – Rider of Fire.

First place in NorthWrite 2013 Collaboration contest for a co-authored short literary work Ahi Ka.

Finalist in 2016 Micro Madness Flash Fiction contest for NZ National Flash Fiction Day. My entry Midnight is listed under June 13.

I also received an honourable mention in an international flash fiction contest.

New Zealander of the Year Local Hero medal

Eleen Mueller Local heroIn 2014, I was awarded a Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Local Hero medal for my community service. Over the previous seven years I had run numerous projects, including collecting 45,000 used books for Fijian school children. You can read about some of them here.

I was sub-editor on an anthology that won  two 2015 Sir Julius Vogel Awards for Best Professional Artwork and Best Collection

I was shortlisted for the 2016 Sir Julius Vogel Awards for Best Youth Novel, with Dragons’ Realm, and as Best New Talent, and won Best Youth Novel.

New Zealand Society of Authors Mentorship

In 2014 I received a mentorship from the New Zealand Society of Authors with Kyle Mewburn, a zany children’s author with a fantastic sense of humour and a long list of awards. He helped me snap-kick my kids’ martial arts novel into shape. In 2015, it was my pleasure to host Kyle at the Storylines’ children’s literary festival.
