Limericks are 5 lines long and usually funny. Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with one another.Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other. They have a distinctive rhythm, which goes like this:
da DUM da da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM
da DUM da da DUM da da DUM

A famous example:
There was a Young Lady whose bonnet,
Came untied when the birds sat upon it.
But she said, ‘I don’t care!
All the birds in the air
Are welcome to sit on my bonnet!’

Prizes:
Finalists: Feedback on your entry, publication of your name and limerick in Clawsome Dragon Limericks & 1 Amazon Kindle voucher for the Clawsome Dragon Limericks e-book.
Shortlisted entries: Feedback on your entry, publication of your name and limerick in Clawsome Dragon Limericks.
Other entrants: Feedback on your entry, (unless the volume of entries is too high to permit individual feedback).

Judging:
Judges: Blair Polly, editor, The Fairytale Factory & Eileen Mueller, editor, Phantom Feather Press.
Entries will be judged in three categories:
1) Children 12 yrs & under
2) Adult & teens.

Rules:

  1. The limerick must be your own work, not copied from the internet, a book, or anywhere else.
  2. Limericks should follow the guidelines at this link. It’s best if limericks have a funny punchline. Any limericks that are not suitable for children, will be disqualified.
  3. By submitting a limerick to this contest, you give Phantom Feather Press the non-exclusive right to publish your limerick in Clawsome Dragon Jokes if it is a finalist or shortlisted, without compensation, apart from the prizes mentioned above.
  4. The author of each published limerick will be acknowledged in the e-book, along with their geographical area and name and short  statement about the entrant’s dragon (eg: by Jack Smith, 10 years old, from New Zealand. Jack’s dragon eats rugby balls for breakfast.)
  5. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  6. Where possible, the judges will try to provide feedback to students about their entries, unless the volume of entries is too high to permit individual feedback.
  7. Parental consent (for those 15 years old & under) is implied by entering the contest.
  8. Authors of any age may enter. We will judge the entries in two categories: 12 yrs & under; adults & teens.
  9. By submitting to this contest, you agree that entries may be edited lightly by the judges before inclusion in the e-book.
